Vaccinating protects your dog against Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis and four types of Leptospirosis. Two initial injections are required which are given 3-4 weeks apart, then a booster injection annually. Puppies can start the first vaccination from 6-8 weeks of age, then the second injection 3-4 weeks later (not before 10 weeks of age).
We also recommend an annual vaccination against Kennel Cough.
Rabies vaccination is available and will be required if taking your dog abroad (We can also provide your Pet Passport.)
Puppies should be wormed every two weeks after birth until the vaccinations are complete. Then once monthly until they are 6 months of age, then every 3 months.
Flea Treatment :
Puppies can be treated against fleas by the Vet from 3 days old. From 8 weeks of age puppies can be treated with spot on treatment.
For the home environment a suitable household flea spray should be used.
Ask our staff for the best products for your pet and home.
Microchipping your dog by the age of 8 weeks is compulsory. This is done by a simple insertion of a grain of rice size chip under the skin with a unique identifying number which stays with the animal for life.
A healthy balanced diet is essential for the wellbeing of your dog. We recommend and sell the Virbac Veterinary range which is tailored to the needs of your dog depending on age, size and breed.
Dental Care :
Dog’s teeth should be cleaned regularly to prevent a build up of tartar. Failure to do this can result in dental disease. Brush your dog’s teeth at least twice weekly using veterinary toothpaste and a soft brush.
Aquadent can also be added to drinking water to reduce tartar and plaque.
Royal Canin Canine Dental food can help maintain clean teeth.
It is important to brush your dog daily. This will remove loose hair and help avoid tangles.
Dogs can be washed every one to two weeks.
Ear Cleaning :
It is also advantageous to clean your dog’s ears. This is done using ear cleaning products which we sell and cotton wool. Never put cotton buds into your dog’s ears!
Dogs with hanging ears are especially prone to ear infections. It is important to keep their ears clean.
